Fifteenth-generation head of Enami, a Kyoto workshop that has made sanada-himo woven cords for over 500 years.
He went to the United States alone in high school, graduated from the art college affiliated with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and returned to Japan to succeed the family business.
Today he also provides technical guidance and historical consultation for period dramas, including the NHK taiga drama Sanada Maru, and gives lectures at museums and tea ceremony organizations, working to share the appeal of sanada-himo and accurate knowledge about it.
