Takashi Miwa

Second-generation head of Sekisanjin Kobo, a studio that creates vessels from stone and fire. In 2015 he began studying under the first Sekisanjin, Ichiro Tokoro, a master craftsman honored with the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, and later succeeded to the name. Based in Hashima, Gifu Prefecture, he uses his own technique of cutting and shaping carefully selected igneous rock and firing it at high temperatures to create stone vessels such as matcha bowls, sake ware, and vases. His work has been shown at Komyo-in temple (a subtemple of Tofuku-ji), Ginza Mitsukoshi, and Palace Hotel Tokyo.
