Teruyuki Hiraga

Born in 1972 in Miyagi Prefecture. Carrying on the family craft from his grandfather and father, he has devoted himself to making Sakunami kokeshi dolls since graduating from high school. One of the leading masters of contemporary kokeshi, he received the Prime Minister's Award, the highest honor at the All-Japan Kokeshi Competition, in 2014. He is also the sole remaining maker of Sakunami kokeshi.
